National Standard Examination (NSE) Syllabus, Exam Pattern, and Exam Date

National Standard Examination (NSE) is a National Examination in India conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). The NSE Examination is a first-stage examination conducted to shortlist candidates for Indian National Olympiad and subsequently International Olympiad. The NSE Examination is conducted in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, and Junior Science. Through NSE, A total of 300 students are selected for the next stage i.e. Indian National Olympiad.

After qualifying for NSE, the next stage is to qualify Indian National Olympiad (INO) in the specific subjects. All Further Stages until International Olympiad will be conducted by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai.

Who can Enroll for NSE Examination?

  1. Students who are currently pursuing Class XII in CBSE Curriculum and not completed can enroll for NSE Examination in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Astronomy.
  2. Students who are currently pursuing Class X IN CBSE Curriculum and not completed can enroll for NSE Examination in Junior Science.

How Can I Enroll For NSE Examination

If you aspire to participate in International Olympiad, the first step is to qualify in the NSE Examination conducted by IIPT. You must Enroll for NSE Examination through the school you are studying. Approach your School Headmaster/Headmistress or Principal to help you get enrolled for NSE Examination.

National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP)

If You Love Physics and are very good at them, You can enroll in NSEP Examination.

To be eligible for National Standard examination in Physics,

  • You must be an Indian Citizen currently studying Class XII in CBSE Curriculum.
  • You must not have passed the Class XII Examination or enrolled for higher studies.
  • You must have not enrolled for National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS)

National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC)

If you are confident in Chemistry, You can enroll in NSE Examination in Chemistry (NSEC)

To be eligible for National Standard examination in Chemistry,

  • You must be an Indian Citizen currently studying Class XII in CBSE Curriculum.
  • You must not have passed the Class XII Examination or enrolled for higher studies.
  • You must have not enrolled for National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS)

National Standard Examination in Biology (NSEB)

If you excel in Biology, you can give National Standard Examination in Biology a try.

To be eligible for National Standard examination in Biology,

  • You must be an Indian Citizen currently studying Class XII in CBSE Curriculum.
  • You must not have passed the Class XII Examination or enrolled for higher studies.
  • You must have not enrolled for National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS)

National Standard Examination in Astronomy (NSEA)

If Astronomy is that you love the most, You can enroll in National Standard Examination in Astronomy

To be eligible for National Standard examination in Astronomy,

  • You must be an Indian Citizen currently studying Class XII in CBSE Curriculum.
  • You must not have passed the Class XII Examination or enrolled for higher studies.
  • You must have not enrolled for National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS)

National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS)

If you love science, You can enroll for National Standard Examination in Junior Science (NSEJS)

  • You must be an Indian Citizen currently studying Class X in CBSE Curriculum.
  • You must not have passed the Class X Examination.
  • You must have not enrolled for any of the NSEA, NSEB, NSEC or NSEP

NSE Examination Pattern

  • 60 multiple choice questions with one or more correct alternatives will be asked for a total of 240 marks.
  • Each correct mark will carry 3 marks.
  • Each Incorrect answer will carry a negative 1 mark.
